One decision to write.

For more than twenty years, I worked as a senior IT consultant. My days were spent inside the systems most people never see: networks, security audits, the infrastructure that keeps businesses running. I liked the work. What I didn't expect was how often it would bring me face to face with the human cost of technology going wrong — the small business owner cleaned out by a phishing email, the retiree who wired her savings to a "grandson" who never existed, the family whose photos vanished with a ransomware note.

I noticed something in those conversations. The people who got hurt weren't careless or unintelligent. They were simply never taught the patterns. Every scam, however sophisticated it looks, runs on a handful of old tricks — urgency, authority, fear, too-good-to-be-true. Once you can name the trick, you can refuse it. That realization became Don't Get Scammed: the book I wished I could have handed to every client, written in the plain language I'd use across a kitchen table, not a conference room.

The children's books came from a quieter place. Reading aloud to the kids in my life, I kept reaching for stories about kindness that didn't preach — stories where looking out for your neighbor was simply what you did. When I couldn't find enough of them, I started writing my own. Forest Friends is the result: a woodland full of small animals solving small problems together, one gentle story at a time.

People sometimes ask how the two projects fit together. To me they've always been the same project. One teaches children that community means watching out for each other. The other gives grown-ups the tools to do exactly that in a digital world. Different shelves, same idea.

My mission

I believe digital safety is a literacy, not a technical skill — something every person can learn, at any age, without a single line of jargon. And I believe the habit of looking out for one another starts early, in the stories we read to our children. Everything I write serves one of those two beliefs, and usually both.
